What to Expect in Your First Session

After reviewing your health history, and discussing your concerns, we will focus on your most troubling food issue with self-applied Acupressure.  If you have any cravings, it's wise to focus on them first as this will bring you the best results, and you will require fewer sessions. 

In your follow up session(s) we will focus on any remaining cravings or other food related issues. My goal is to help you cover as much territory as possible in each session, without covering too much. How many sessions you will require depends on you and how you respond to treatment.

Response to Treatment Varies

We are unique individuals, with unique experiences and physiology and we all respond differently to treatment. Some patients respond very quickly, and clear multiple cravings in one session. Others require several sessions for one craving.  We won't know how you respond until after your first session, and patience is helpful in your healing process. A wise man once told me, 'Infinite patience brings immediate results.'

Food Cravings can be likened to the Iceberg above. You know you experience a Food Craving (which is the ice above the surface), but what causes the craving is not completely in your awareness, it's below the surface of the water. This is why you haven't able to change it, it's been out of your awareness. The ice below the water is driving your Food Craving(s), but the depth and breadth of it cannot be seen before your session.

During your session, you may have insights into the 'deeper' cause of your cravings, and in that moment your cravings can start to fade. We don't know how far reaching or deep the 'ice' is that's creating your Food Cravings, until after your session(s). This is the most gentle, powerful and simple way to target and unwind your pattern of craving or unconscious eating that I've found after decades of personal and professional exploration.


What to Expect After Your Sesssion

After a session, some patients notice the change immediately, feel totally different and know they've made a major shift. Others must return to their lives before they notice the change in their thoughts and behaviors, it's more subtle for them. Still others are reminded by spouses or friends that their behavior has changed, they don't notice it until they are reminded of how things used to be. This is because the new behavior feels natural and they've forgotten their old ways of being; this is positive and is called healing amnesia.

Patients have reported other benefits after treatment that are specific to each individual. The benefits are different because we all have a different story with food, and how it has affected us is unique. The sessions are more than just letting go of old habits and resolving Food Cravings, they can help you in many other ways. Patients state they feel more focused, less distracted, better able to deal with stress, and feel more at peace with food and themselves. Others report that their relationships improve, they feel less creatively blocked, and can move forward into new territory in their lives
 

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

After your first session, you'll have an idea of what can be accomplished in a session and we can roughy estimate how many sessions you will need to reach your goals. It's best to assume that you will need one or more sessions per category of food you crave. Categories of food usually are: sweets and chocolate, non-sweet carbohydrates, caffeine, dairy products, etc.

Please know that the more sessions you require to resolve your cravings translates into more overall benefit in your life. This is because there ars more areas of your life that have been affected by your cravings or other habits, so when they are resolved, you experience greater relief.


Follow Up Sessions

In follow up sessions, we check to see what has changed from the previous session. If you are complete with the previous session, we will focus on your next pressing concern. You need to return to your life and make sure the triggers for overeating or food cravings have been fully addressed between sessions. This is how we know if we have addressed everything necessary for you to experience lasting change.

If you overeat, it is important to focus on resolving your speific food cravings first, as you will have more immediate results and will require fewer sessions overall.  If you focus on 'I overeat' you will not see much change in your life after one session. If you focus on 'I eat way too much chocolaye and once I start, I can't stop' you will likely see a big change in your experience the next time you're around chocolate.

In general, overcoming habits of overeating will require more than one session, and may take a series. Yes, I have helped people change their overeating behavior in one session, but it's best not to expect that and be dissappointed if it doesn't happen for you. It is a process to heal, and it can take time, patience and trust to heal.
